Dans ce film, François Reichenbach nous emmène au cœur du cirque Krauz, en tournée autour de Mexico. Ce modeste cirque traditionnel, que l'on a rencontré en 1969 dans un court métrage sous le même titre, est dirigé par la famille Atayde et se distingue par la passion et l'union de ses membres, où parents et enfants partagent l'amour du spectacle. La caméra capte non seulement les numéros de clowns, funambules et trapézistes, mais aussi toute la vie du cirque : le voyage, l'installation du chapiteau, et l'ambiance des coulisses. Face à une désaffection du public, le cirque tente de se renouveler en introduisant de nouveaux numéros. Cependant, la mise en scène de monstres – Frankenstein, Dracula et King Kong – s'avère trop terrifiante pour les jeunes spectateurs. Une alternative envisagée consiste à intégrer des artistes extérieurs, tels qu'un contorsionniste argentin, un lutteur face à un tigre, un avaleur de sabres et de feu, ou encore un jongleur d'assiettes. Mais ce choix risque de faire perdre au cirque familial toute son âme.In this film, François Reichenbach takes us into the heart of the Krauz circus, on tour around Mexico City. This modest traditional circus, which we encountered in 1969 in a short film under the same title, is run by the Atayde family and is distinguished by the passion and unity of its members, where parents and children share the love of performance. The camera captures not only the clown, tightrope walker, and trapeze acts, but also the whole life of the circus: the journey, the pitching of the big top, and the backstage atmosphere. Faced with dwindling audiences, the circus tries to reinvent itself by introducing new acts. However, the staging of monsters, Frankenstein, Dracula, and King Kong, proves too terrifying for the young spectators. An alternative being considered involves integrating outside artists, such as an Argentine contortionist, a wrestler facing a tiger, a sword and fire swallower, or a plate juggler. But this choice risks making the family circus lose its entire soul.
